The problem is that when it opens up there is a column which has dates included within it. The date look fine but excel does not recognise it. So you have to highlight the column and then convert it to a date. I suspect opening it in compatibility mode has something to do with it. How could I get excel to recognise the date without having to convert it to a date each time. This wouldn't be a big problem but I have to do this with all the spreadsheets I open up. If the latter is the case, even though it is a pain, if you know what you are doing for the conversion then you might be better off doing it yourself then allowing others to corrupt the data by not performing the conversion correctly.
